ALL THINGS MUST BE SYNCHRONIZED, ESPECIALLY IN BROADCASTING

From July 17th - August 2nd, the Federation Internationale de Natation - FINA (International Swimming Federation) conducted the 13th FINA World Championship in five aquatic sports - swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo and open water swimming - in Rome, Italy. Fischer Connectors was selected to ensure faultless connectivity.

RAI International broadcasts throughout the world, and is a partner of the FINA World Championship organization. RAI's Radiotelevisione Italiana is Italy's state television, providing programs made for Italians living in Italy and abroad. Well-known for its excellence in broadcasting, RAI was invited to provide exclusive coverage for the FINA World Championship via television, radio, Internet, and Teletext. It is responsible for supplying its signal to as many as 50 different television stations throughout the world which are covering this event. With over 1,400 hours of transmission time, the reliability of its broadcast signals is critical.

The venue for the competition is a huge sports complex, previously used for the 2006 Winter Olympics, where 95% of the broadcasting equipment is not fixed installation. Another complicating factor is that prior to the FINA championship there was a major tennis event in the complex. This left RAI very little time for set up and for required equipment, installations and technologies to be perfectly synchronized.

To help ensure flawless transmission, RAI is using more than 300 kilometers of cable and 70 cameras, including six on railings, three underwater, and four cameras that suspend over the pools on wires to follow the swimmers. RAI knows that when milliseconds count, as they do in sports, they also count in broadcasting.

The athletes' village is 5,000 square meters in size and houses RAI's on-site production facilities. RAI is also using its on-site OB Vans which are critical to providing excellent coverage. To help ensure uninterrupted broadcasting and signal dependability, RAI utilizes Fischer Connectors 1053 HDTV™, 1051 Triax and multipole connectors on its cameras and in its mobile units.

"Fischer's durable connectors and cable assemblies are extremely robust and perfectly adapted for these demanding environments," said Salvatore Brambilla, Managing Director, Fischer Connectors SRL, for Fischer Connectors in Italy. "As soon as the 1053 HDTV became available, RAI knew it was perfect for the type of rough and rugged broadcasting environments they often face. It was also the perfect solution for FINA's complex sporting event where superior transmissions, faultless connectivity, and durable equipment were essential." RAI has enjoyed a long term history with Fischer Connectors and for almost 20 years has been using Fischer Connectors. With the 1053 HDTV's fast and easy termination, its quick installation in the field, innovative fiber optic technology, and its unprecedented reliability, RAI is bringing home the gold in broadcasting FINA's World Championship.

For more than 50 years, Fischer Connectors has been designing, manufacturing and distributing highperformance connectors and cable assembly solutions. Known for their reliability, precision, and resistance to demanding environments, its products are commonly used in high end electronic equipment such as medical apparatus, scientific or instrumentation devices, broadcast, defense and security systems.
