RTSI, like many TV companies, are committed to converting their equipment to HD. The Swiss broadcast industry is a small world, and the impressive results, which the Fischer 1053 camera connection technology obtained while being exhaustively tested by tpc (Swiss tv productioncenter), convinced RTSI to turn to Fischer Connectors to provide a tried and tested connector and cable system solution for its first HD OB van.

Brought into service in the beginning of 2007, the 25 ton vehicle has been equipped with 8 SONY HDC-1500 cameras, all using Fischer 1053TM fiber-optic connectors. Already exploited by several prestigious OB vans during major broadcasting events, such as the Winter Olympics or the Football World Cup, the Fischer 1053TM series proved to provide outstanding resistance to rough field shooting conditions. Eliminating the difficult procedure of polishing fiber-optic elements as well as preparing and using special epoxies, the Fischer 1053TM makes it both practical and economical to field-assemble and field-repair HD camera connections. When it comes to broadcasting live major events, being able to freely field-manage their HD connections is a huge asset for broadcasters.

After the successful completion of its OB van project, RTSI went on with the HD conversion of its first studio. Again, in addition to a high-performance camera connection technology, Fischer Connectors provided a complete and integrated service, including customized consulting, cable assembly, on-site installation and training. It only took five months to complete the project, from the first brief to the final testing of the 70 connectors and 250 meters of cable installed. A full training session was organized to enable RTSI’s broadcast engineers to assemble and maintain their own cables.

Operational as from September 2007, the new studio is used to produce daily shows in high definition. With the coming Euro 2008 Football Cup, sports programs will be regularly televised. Additionally, some productions will be done for ‘HD suisse’, a new Swiss TV channel whose programs will have an image resolution five times higher than the current standard.
