As a leader in interconnectivity, we see first hand the positive impact technology can have on people’s lives.
That’s why Fischer Connectors is a proud partner of TWIICE, the wearable, robotic exoskeleton to help people with spinal cord injuries walk again. Using our ultra-lightweight connectors – and our technical expertise as a partner – TWIICE restores mobility to those who might otherwise be restricted to a wheelchair. Together with TWIICE, we are reimagining what is possible for those with limited mobility so that they can get back to their normal activities.
As a partner to TWIICE, we provided our connectivity solutions and experience to help create an assistive medical technology that is as performant as it is user-friendly.
Every disability is unique, so the challenge was to make a modular device that could easily be customized for different users and levels of disability. TWIICE team chose our ultra-light, easy-to-use and easy-to-integrate connectivity solutions Fischer Core Series AluLite™ connectors for their reliability, compactness, ruggedness and ease of use.
In addition to the connectors themselves, we helped make connectivity easy for TWIICE with:
- Identifying connectivity solutions with an optimum weight/ performance ratio
- Providing compact, high-density connection for maximum comfort and control
Ensuring reliability and safety to prevent user injury
TWIICE was engineered by the Laboratory of Robotic Systems (LSRO) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). The project aims to help people with physical disabilities regain their independence through daily activities like sitting and standing, walking and climbing stairs.
TWIICE competed at the Cybathlon 2016, the first championship for athletes with disabilities. The TWIICE team placed 4th in the powered exoskeleton race, where pilots with complete paraplegia used assistive technologies to tackle an obstacle course involving typical everyday tasks such as climbing stairs or sitting down on a chair.
The technology has been internationally recognized and featured at a variety of innovation-focused events, including, just naming a few:
- UAE AI & Robotics Award for Good, Dubai
- International Exhibition of Inventions, Geneva
Medtec Japan, Tokyo
Through our partnership with TWIICE, we are helping restore mobility to people who might otherwise never stand or walk again. Together, we’re turning ambitious ideas into reality by helping disabled people get back on their feet.
